The inaugural session on the European Student Assembly
What is the European Student Assembly?
The inaugural session of the European Student Assembly will bring together 275 student representatives from 38 European university alliances, for a conference to be held in Strasbourg on March 3rd and 4th 2022. This inaugural session will be the first of a series of gatherings that will give students a public voice in the European Union. As one of the main EUC activities, the European Student Assembly will be a unique opportunity for students from across Europe to address some of the complex challenges that the EU faces today. The Assembly will contribute to make student voices heard through the publication of their policy recommendations.
Step 1 – Documentation work and students’ consultation
During the preparation phase, students from all alliances have been split into 10 panels focusing on different discussion topics related to the four main topics defined by the Commission in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe. They have started meeting with experts and actively working on their recommendations with the support of the organisation team. Reports from the meetings have been submitted on the platform of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
Panel 1 – Emanuele Rebasti; Panel 1 – Dr. Tatiana Coutto; Panel 5 – Prof. Shiv Someshwar; Panel 5 – Dr. Timothée Parrique; Panel 8 – Earl Wang; Panel 10 – Prof. Anne Boring ; Panel 7 – Jonathan Bourguignon
Step 2 – Plenary meeting in Strasbourg
After a welcome adress at the European Parliament, the Assembly will start with a series of keynote speeches at Strasbourg University. Student representatives will then be given the opportunity to discuss their position within one of 10 thematic sub-groups. The recommendations of each subgroup will then be submitted to the vote of the plenary assembly, resulting in a common position paper to be shared with European decision makers in the frame of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
